https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gcuIB79SLw&feature=youtu.be “My youth is in the program and he loves the support. There is also a Tuesday night support group for parents, and mental health resources are available to us if we need them.” –Candice (Parent of Tupper Nova program client) In addition to creating more access to care with extended hours for our clients and their families, VCH-Vancouver Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) is partnering with stakeholders in the community to help reach more of our child and youth clients, when and where they need us. The Tupper Nova Program is a great example of this. In partnership with the Vancouver School Board, the program means that 24 students struggling with mental health issues that impact their ability to participate in a typical school day now have access to supports, including: psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy and educational supports such as providing a classroom setting geared for the individual needs of the student. As Candice notes, the program also has a significant family component, actively involving parents in their child’s care strategy. Students are welcomed into the program based on both mental health issues and educational needs and come from all across Vancouver. Even though the program only started with the beginning of the school year in September, Tupper Nova has already seen VCH-Vancouver double its capacity to serve youth! Working together, we can make it possible for youth to succeed when it comes to managing their education alongside their specific mental health needs. The Tupper Nova program is part of VCH-Vancouver’s larger Child and Youth Mental Health and Substance Use strategy. From the Student Council:
At Sir Charles Tupper we focus on helping those in need within our community no matter the magnitude, whenever we can, and as much as we can. Our school will be participating in a district wide fundraising event known as the Canley Cup, which is also a district wide competition between all 18 public high schools. The objective is to raise the most money for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank – to help families, and the less fortunate during the holiday season. In previous years we have had great success, achieving first place in 2013, and often placing within the top 3 other years. This year, our school’s objective is not to focus on winning this competition, but rather bring the community together to lend a helping hand to our fellow neighbors. We will be donating all our proceeds to local Tupper families who are in need of our community's help this holiday season. You may donate by, sending money with your child to school which they can donate during their block A class, or online through our GoFundMe Page. https://www.gofundme.com/canleycup We kindly ask for your help, and would greatly appreciate it if you could contribute any amount to our fundraiser. CUT TO THE CHASE:
- Total asks = $45,305 - Gaming Grant + contribution from PAC General Fund) = $23,273 - Approximately a 22k gap between request and current available funds - Asking for monetary or in-kind donations from now through December 22 - Your donation is secure and will go directly to the school after the drive. We do not receive or see any of your payment details - All donors will receive a tax receipt - Donate money here on chimp.net - Sign up for other donations here http://bit.ly/2nRRcS3 - See the entire budget spreadsheet here http://bit.ly/2AwXiwU - Questions? Email [email protected] Nitty Gritty Details: Every year, Tupper Parent Advisory Council (PAC) receives funding from the Province in the form of a “gaming grant” http://bit.ly/2km9Yft to support activities and items identified as “outside of the necessary curriculum.” The PAC invites teachers to apply for this funding by clearly identifying how it will enhance the student learning experience. Examples are field trips, lab equipment, sporting attire, and much more. The PAC then votes on how to distribute the funds. This process happened in October. We now want to raise funds to give the teachers and staff more extracurricular opportunities. Instead of ongoing fundraising throughout the year, we would like to put our limited time and energy into planning events that support and build this ROARSy community. But we can't do it alone. Any size donation is welcome, but if you’re not sure how much to give, we suggest somewhere in the vicinity of $25-75, or the equivalent value in-kind. If we could get 200 donations of that size, we would be almost completely funded for the year, which would be an amazing holiday gift for our school. Several of the requests will support our school for years, even decades to come. The impact of your donation is far-reaching, touching hundreds of students far into their future. How to HelpThere are 2 ways you can help: 1. Donate money here. No chequebook required. If you wish to write a cheque, please bring it to the Tupper office in an envelope labelled “PAC Direct Drive” and they will make sure it gets to us. 2. Donate “stuff” - many of the teacher asks are for things like food, cameras, or other services or physical items. Maybe you are a business owner or know one who could use an end-of-year tax write-off. If so, this would be a great option for you. All of the unmet requests can be found here http://tinyurl.com/tupper...Simply add your details to commit and we'll follow up with you soon. About the OrganizersThe primary role of the PAC is to “advise the board, principal and staff of the school respecting any matter relating to the school.” We also organize community and school events, and raise funds to support educational enrichment opportunities. |
