Room 102 has an audio visual recording studio with a green screen and lots of A/V gear including LED lighting, go pro cameras, and a mini drone copter-camera. This facility is excellent for student and extracurricular multimedia projects. Much of this equipment has been made available by our wonderful PAC over the years.
I will be making the Studio room 102 available for booking to students and staff at lunches and after school (a staff member or myself will have to supervise: unless I am in meetings or at ProD I am here most days after school until 6pm to avoid rush hour). I myself can also be booked for equipment orientation sessions for staff and students. (that orientation will be a requirement for the use of our cameras, lighting, and mini-drone) Here is the booking form that I will be using and I encourage staff to use as well. Send me an email to confirm. Student bookings will be emailed directly to me and I will enter those. Tupper Media: Capture the ROARS. Regards, S. Coderre Tupper Tech is a Trades training program based at Tupper but accepting applications from across the district.
It is for academically capable grade 12’s interested in entering the trades. Only 20 students are accepted for their grade 12 year. Most years: - 10 graduate early with their full dogwood and start an apprenticeship - 5 graduate early with their full dogwood and enter post secondary on a full scholarship. - 5 discover that the trades are not for them (now) and enter post secondary the September after graduation. Here are 2 videos showcasing the program. The first video features Tupper Tech students. The second features Danielle - an amazing story of success. https://youtu.be/lgACbGBpZms https://youtu.be/BLNqrvMFxgE Message from Jeff Gourley.
"Wanted to give everyone a quick update on Tupper Basketball as we move into a new year at school and a new season of basketball. I am sure that you are all aware that our grade 8, 9 & 10 boys have only lost 1 game in Vancouver play in the last 6 seasons. Our grade 8’s finished 11th in the province, our grade 9’s 7th and our juniors 2nd. Our incoming grade 8’s are favored pre-season to win the city championship as are the other 3 boys teams. The senior team is ranked #8 in the province pre-seaon. We received our new scorers table and the “Hall of Fame” benches which combined with our new floor we are the crown jewel of facilitates for Vancouver High School Basketball. All of this new equipment was purchased with funds raised by the boys themselves and in addition the boys basketball teams pledged 20% of all funds raised to the “Best Buddies” program and presented the students there with a check for over $2000.00. It is our intention to do the same this coming school year with all funds raised by the teams. This past summer we ran free basketball camps for 5 weeks. The camps were run by Tupper Hall of Famers, Patrick Cumaual, Ivan Yaco, Warren Liang and Tupper teacher Jordan McAlpine. All of these outstanding coaches taught free of charge and donated all their time at the camp which the students were offered for free, both genders, all grades and any school in Vancouver. Some days 40 attended - some days 8 students but an amazing gift to the city none the less. Very, very pleased. There were not only Tupper students but schools represented were Killarney, Van Tech, Churchill, Lord Byng, Brit, David Thompson and Gladstone throughout the summer. Alumni continuing on playing in the next level see’s Cameron Smythe our All-Canadian going into his 5th and final year at Carleton hoping to win his 5th straight Canadian Championship. Hall of Famer Warren Liang is going into his 5th year at Dalhousie University and hoping to expand on his back to back Atlantic championships as well as the teams 3rd place finish at Nationals. Hall of Famer Daniel Kim is taking a year off from medical school as he accepted a ASAN ACADEMY Fellowship which is supported & sponsored in full by Hyundai. Daniel will spend 6 months in Seoul Korea studying Korea’s foreign policy and then he will be stationed somewhere in the U.S. for the remaining 6 months. Looking forward to the new year and so proud of all these young men." Jeff Gourley Head of Basketball Operations Sir Charles Tupper Tigers Below you can find a letter about fentanyl and also an year-end report from the VSB. These also should have been sent to your personal email. Thanks to Bonny Burnell for these updates on the great things some of our Tupper students are doing! Nika Asgari, our new student President, participated in the United Nations Speaking Contest in February, and tied for top points; however, the judges eventually decided to give first option to the other speaker to take the free trip on offer. As it turned out, the other speaker couldn't make it, so Nika is off to New York in July for her free trip to the United Nations. Zachary Goldthorpe will be following up his top 5 debater status at the World Scholar's Cup here in Vancouver with a trip to Athens for the finale of World Scholar's Cup for the whole world. As the rest of his team from Vancouver couldn't make it, he has been placed on a team with with two keen scholars from Israel. It should be an amazing experience. This year, it will be a breakfast again, most likely the week of June 5. I don't have the date nailed down but I need to start getting volunteers now and getting a sense of how much help we'll have. There are lots of ways to help, with varying degrees of time investment. Please seriously consider helping in some way. Let's show 'em some love! We need:
